BERIMBAU BEATDOWN MIX

This month I've made a Big Big mix. An acid house pile up of bashment, booty bass, baile funk and general rave. This is the first time I've used cdj decks instead of vinyl so apologies for some of the dodgy mixes but I've popped my cd dj cherry so I don't care.

I started with some tunes on my favourite bashment riddim from 2000, 'The Acid Hall'. The name says it all..pure minimal 808 dancehall. Then the awesome new Kano/Vybz collaboration which I'm loving as Kano's flow is the best I've heard him do in a unique bit of grime flavoured dancehall.

Next its Uffie's foul mouthed french electro hammer with Mr.Oizo's mix making it sound like glitchy electric shocks. She should be more famous than Lily Allen. Following that a new one from Japan's Tigarah doing some nice chat over a grime inspired beat. A blinding bit of sub-bass production from Flosstradamus on the remix of crunk anthem, 'Laffy Taffy'. I love that tune, its even better than the original and bounces along like a jolly fat kid with a bag of chips.

Then some new ond old Miami bass from 8Ball & MJG and Freak Nasty followed by a couple of Chicago Juke tunes that sound like someone accidentally hit the Gabba button when recording some r'nb. M.I.A.'s brand new single 'XR2' is heavy. A great Diplo beat that manages to successfully chop up Baltimore, baile funk and rave, with some funny back in the day lyrics from Miss M.I.A., returning to the game.

The Baile funk section begins with hot new Aussie producer, Scattermish's storming blend of 'Kryptonite' and 'Bucky done gun', followed by some Brazilian funk carioca berimbau ( that twangy elastic band instrument used in capoeira ) badness from Rui de janeiro, Sandrinho and Issac DJ...some of the best baile funk producers around.

This leads noisely into my rave finale. I didn't intend to go into house but it happened. The High powered boys, i know nothing about other than they want some Hoes to get down apparently. The Redfoxxworth edit of Kelis is fucking amazing in a rave lick style, all lasers and falling over in the dark. Way better than the original. The Bodyrox tune is a bit Kiss FM in Ibiza but felt right at the time and has got a similar acid feel which works I think...... Then Radioclit's brilliantly tough Dizzee Rascal remix which I never tire of, also props to them for discovering the Juke thing. The last tune by Acen is a fucking classic masterpiece of rave....pitched up vocals, thundering hardcore breakbeats, trippy pianos and a James Bond sample. You can't go wrong.

Shout outs to the producers and artists of all these tunes in France, Brazil, Portugal, Sweden, USA, England, Jamaica, Japan & Australia. Its like a World Cup of Sub-Bass !
