This is probably one of my last posts this year, so a big thank you to all my readers. I started this blog to chat about music and hopefully pass on some knowledge to anyone who's interested. I never thought my last mix would get downloaded 300 times in the first week, so thats awesome.
If it wasn't for blogs and the like I would have never got to hear so much good music this year.
So coz its Christmas, first, some MP3 pressies, old and new.
DON'T OPEN THEM ALL AT ONCE.
( re-upped on Z-share )
Skepta - Duppy. Grime anthem of the year featuring an allstar line up of MCs that I can't be bothered to write.
The Pack ft. Too $hort - Vans ( remix ) I played this out once this year and the bass was so deep that people looked worried.
DJ SoLman - KuPower 2005 Hot Hot Heat from Lisbon, SoLmon is killing it in Kuduro at the moment.
As Dengosas - Vai nada pi. This is a kind of new version of Besterinha, but now with a guitar sample from Venus and a girl shouting like only baile funk MCs can.
Flosstradamus - Overnight Star. There's alot of people out there doing this kind of stuff, but Flosstradamus's remixes have been nothing short of sweet, here's a tear jerking mash-up of Twista, Sigur Ross and some heavy Baltimore breaks. Sob-fest in the club.
Spank Rock - Lindsay Lohan's Revenge. Baby rat.
The Roots ft.Peedie Crack - Long Time. Pure soul power and I reckon their best song so far.
Also if you liked any of my mixes this year, let me know and I'll do some more. Don't be scared, it ain't no thing. Here's what you may have missed.
Reggaeton Mix - PERREO SHOCKOUT
Ragga Acid Rave Baile funk - BERIMBAU BEATDOWN
Baile funk - ROCINHA FUNK ATTACK
Carnival Mix - CARNIVAL RINSE 2006
Dub Mix - BRIXTON'S BURNING
I love a list me. Something to do with being a sad sad muisc geek. Here are some things I've been feeling this year.
VAMANOS HAS BEEN TUNED INTO
Perreo radio has been fueling my reggaeton addiction with the freshest tunes, awesome live club mixes in LA and chucklesome bitchy reggaeton gossip from Dj Manny and his crew on Desde Los Callejones De Los Angeles.
The let out on East village radio. Nick Catchdubs with an occasional appearance from DJ Ayres have played some of the most faultless selection of tunes every Friday night. Mixing up the hottest Hyphie, electro, ragga, funk, electroydance, reggaeton and general forward thinking Hip Hop goodness. For music selection, this is possibly the best radio show I've ever heard.
Sinden on Kiss. Like a British version of The Let out, Sinden has played equally hot music and recently hosted a crazed mix by legendary Brazilian Baile Funk DJ Sandrinho, which you can get streamed on Discobelle here.Theres a tune on it with frogs croaking.
VAMANOS'S FAVOURITE MUSIC MAGS
FACT .Thank God for this freebie - Good concise writing, design and content.
The Fader has also great for music and photography.
VAMANOS'S PARTY PARTY TIME
Rio Rox at Proud Gallery has hosted the cream of Baile Funk with Sandrinho, Sany Pitbull and Edu K. Its free as well. Last one will be on the 20th Dec. Get down there for general Brazilian madness.
Heatwave has been doing the dancehall, reggaeton, jungle thing and have this year moved to The Embassy and The Pool Bar.
Res have been doing some cool nights this year at grimey bowling alleys, the NFT and Dreambags. One of them was especially good as they got me to play ! Respect and cheers Respeeps.
VAMANOS' MOST CHECKED MUSIC BLOGS
I've been loving loads of blogs this year. A revolution for sharing beats, chat and information.
Discobelle has pretty much killed it this year.
Wayne and Wax. Ethnomusicologist that disturbingly makes mixes as well as he writes.
Turntablelab blog has thrown up all mannor of film, music and randomness.
Negrophonic. DJ/ Rupture has again been great this year.
VAMANOS'S MIXES OF YEAR
A friend asked me to recommend some albums to buy. I couldn't think of any. But there have been so many hot mixes this put up this year by folks into the same stuff as me. So Thank you to the following and loads of others.
Wayne and Wax 'Dubble Dub' and 'Dem Bow Legacies' have been awesome for Dub and reggaeton alike. Lovingly crafted and a tune selection to shit yourself for. Get his brand new Bloggrddims now.
Paul Devro 'Radio Zero'. A genre hopping mini masterpiece taking in Baltimore'd Kate Bush, Samba flavoured baile funk and some desi 2-step.
Dr.Auratheft'Bam Bam'. A mix of pre-Calypso caribbean treats of mento music that was born in Jamaica, still echoed and covered in dancehall today. This stuff takes you away to a palm fringed carribbean beach in a split second. The lyrics of 'Muffridite' and 'Calabash' get funnier and more bizarre on every listen.
Radioclit 'GhettoPop Podcasts'. Elecctro Booty London sickness. They are not afraid to play the cheesiest pop next to some of the most serious acid crazed Hip Hop. They pretty much found Kuduro and Juke. So you can't argue with that.
Diplo 'Mad Decent Podcasts'. Inbetween doing a film, a Bonde de Role tour and tonnes of remixes, The original Florida workhorse has brought us numerous exclusive podcast treats ranging from old school baile funk trax to new school Parisian electro to New Orleans Bounce. If these don't get you to work in the morning then nothing will.
Graeme Sinden 'DJ Mag Mix'. Mixing up the hottest crunked out beats faster than a banshee, this mix has an energey level few Djs ever achieve. He's Good. Fucking Good.
Scattermish 'I Got Tha Bass'. Similar to Sinden, this Melbourne DJ is on fire with production skills to match.
Ropstyle 'Superpunk mix'. An slamming punk mix, if your that way inclined, of classics from Fugazi, Huggy Bear and Bad Brains. Raw as fuck.
